Bulls End Weekend With 2-0 Shutout Of Maine

CLEARWATER, FL - Senior Tori Speckman picked up her third victory of the weekend on Sunday morning as she struck out seven batters in a 2-0 victory over Maine. The victory improves the Bulls to 12-9 on the season.
The Bulls got on the board in the top of the second inning as senior Sammi Gallardo hit a leadoff home run, giving UB the lead for good. The Bulls tacked on another run in the top of the fifth inning as junior Alexis Curtiss scored from third on a wild pitch.
UB didn't need much run support with the way Speckman was pitching as she stuck out seven batters in seven innings pitched. For the weekend, Speckman struck out 31 batters in 21 innings. She improved to 9-4 on the season.
The Bulls collected four hits, while working out six walks in the game. Curtiss, Gallardo, Hayley Barrow and freshman Jessica Taylor each recorded hits, but the Bulls left 10 runners on base in the contest.
"Great team win today," said head coach Trena Peel. "Sammi did a great job at breaking the ice with a solo home run. It was nice to see us swinging the bats again. I am proud of Tori once again for throwing a shutout and capping off a great weekend."
The Bulls will remain in Florida on Tuesday and will face Army and Albany in Orlando.
