BUFFALO, NY – State University of New York, Buffalo forward Alexus Malone was named the inaugural Big 4 women's basketball Player of the Week after helping to lead the Bulls to a pair of wins last week.
Beginning this season, the Big 4 schools – UB, Canisius, Niagara and St. Bonaventure - will name one student-athlete each week during the basketball season as men's and women's basketball Player of the Week. At the conclusion of the 2014-15 season, the All-Big 4 teams will be chosen.
Malone recorded back-to-back double-doubles to help the Bulls to a 2-0 week in non-conference play. Malone pulled down a career-best 17 rebounds in a 73-64 win over Niagara on Saturday to go with 15 points. Her 17 boards were tied for the eighth-most single-game rebounds in program history. At Saint Francis (PA), Malone scored 10 points and had 13 rebounds. She added six assists and two blocks on the week, while shooting 38.1 percent from the floor.
For the season, Malone is averaging 10.7 points and a team-best 13.3 rebounds per game. The Bulls are 2-1 and will next play at eighth-ranked Duke on Tuesday night.
