BUFFALO, NY – The State University of New York, Buffalo women's basketball head coach Felisha Legette-Jack announced the signing of four players to National Letters of Intent Wednesday. The Bulls have added Stephanie Reid and Courtney Wilkins who will join UB for the latter half of the 2014-15 season, while Gabi Bade and Brittany Morrison will be additions for the 2015-16 campaign.
Reid and Wilkins will travel to Western New York from Melbourne, Australia. "Stephanie (Reid) and Courtney (Wilkins) will be joining us next semester – two more Australians that will address our needs this season," stated Legette-Jack.
Reid is a three-time MVP for her Peninsula School and has earned first-team praise since 2009. She was twice awarded the Thurlow Trophy for Excellence in Basketball. In 2014, Reid was honored with the Peninsula School Dr. Baker Award for service to school sport and the Service to Basketball award. A member of the Frankston Blues Junior First Teams, she earned the Rising Star Award in 2013, was named MVP and helped the team to a Youth League Championship in 2013-14. The Big V Youth Championship All-Star Five Guard recipient, Reid was a member of the U18 School Sports Victorian Team in 2013.
"Stephanie is an excellent point guard that has cat-like vision. She is a very good three-point shooter that can defend very well," said Legette-Jack.
Wilkins is a 6'1'' forward from Haileybury College in Victoria. Having played first team basketball since 2010, she was named captain and MVP last year. Wilkins averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds in youth league play and was named most improved in 2013-14.
"Courtney is a face-up post that can shoot the three ball and also bang in the post. Courtney loves to rebound and run the floor," Legette-Jack praised. "We are absolutely thrilled to have these additions to our program."
Bade is a combo guard from a powerhouse basketball program in northern CA, while Morrison is a 5'10'' small forward out of St. Joseph Academy in Cleveland, OH.
"We are so excited about the progress our program is making," Legette-Jack said. "Adding Gabi (Bade) and Brittany (Morrison) continues our journey of pursuing championships in the classroom and on the court."
Bade, who attends Pinewood High School, played a lead role in securing the 2014 state championship. Pinewood has claimed six state championships under the direction of Doc Scheppler, the 2014 Cal-Hi Sports State Coach of the Year and shooting coach of NBA star, Jeremy Lin.
"Gabi is going to be fun to watch. She is an incredible passer that can hit the three-point shot. She sees the game in slow motion, yet she pushes the ball with a tenacity of purpose. She will be a crowd pleaser for sure."
A powerhouse in the paint, Morrison ranked fourth in the Cleveland area in rebounding during the 2013-14 season.
"Brittany will bring quickness on the wing. She loves to rebound, outlet and run. Brittany is a very good defender and fantastic student. She will complement our team well," Legette-Jack stated.
Legette-Jack's third season at UB will open Friday as the Bulls host Siena at Alumni Arena at 5 pm.
