
Bulls Fall 4-3 At Cornell

ITHACA, NY - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team suffered its first defeat of the season, dropping a tough 4-3 decision at Ivy League foe, Cornell. The two teams split the six singles matches, but the Big Red took the all important doubles point.
UB took the contest at first doubles as Cornell was forced to retire early in the match, but the host Big Red won at both second and third doubles by an identical 6-2 score, putting the Bulls down 1-0 heading into singles action.
UB picked up the first singles victory as freshman Margarita Kotok continued her strong play with a win at fourth singles, 6-3, 6-2. Cornell won at third singles, but then Buffalo got another win from a freshman as Laura Holterbosch won at sixth singles, 6-2, 3-6, 10-6. Victories at first and second singles clinched the match for Cornell, but the Bulls were able to win the final match of the day as junior Laura Fernandez won at fifth singles, 7-5, 6-7 (3), 10-7.
The Bulls will remain in Ithaca, NY and will face UMBC tomorrow morning at 9:00 am.
