
Bulls win 10th Straight With 3-0 Sweep Of Canisius

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team wrapped up a seven-match road trip with a 3-0 victory at Canisius. The Bulls have improved their record to 10-0 as they begin they return home for the final non-conference weekend.
The Bulls took the match, 27-25, 25-23, 25-20 as they outhit their opponent for the 10th straight match, this time, .202 to .117. UB was able to overcome a 16-11 deficit as it pulled within 20-17 and then went on a 6-2 run to take a 23-22 lead. Canisius was able to fight off two set points before the Bulls prevailed with a 27-25 victory.
The Bulls raced out to a 17-11 lead in the second set and led 19-13 when the Griffs pulled back to 21-18. UB regained a 24-19 lead, but Canisius spoiled four set points before a kill from senior Christine Fritsche gave UB the second set.
UB opened a 19-13 lead in the third set, which forced a Canisius timeout. A kill from sophomore Akeila Lain gave the Bulls a 23-17 lead and UB held on for the set and the match as sophomore Megan Lipski recorded a kill, giving UB a 25-20 victory.
"I don't think we performed our best tonight and give Canisius credit because they made us work hard for the victory," said head coach Todd Kress. "We have a short week now to prepare for our next match, but we will get in the gym tomorrow and continue to get better."
Fritsche led the way with 10 kills, while Lain had nine kills and just two errors, hitting .438 on the night. Senior Carissa McKenna added six kills and Dana Musil added seven. Senior Dani Reinert led the offense with 26 assists and junior Taylor Pritchett added 18.
Defensively, reigning MAC East Defensive Player of the Week Kelly Svoboda finished with 25 digs, including 14 in the opening set. The Bulls had 10.0 total team blocks, led by five from sophomore Tahleia Bishop.
The Bulls will round out non-conference play this weekend when they host the Blue and White Classic. UB opens with Valparaiso on Friday night. The Bulls will also face Maryland-Eastern Shore and nationally-ranked Ohio State.
