
UB Men's Basketball Signs Marshall Transfer Jamir Hanner

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo men's basketball head coach Bobby Hurley has announced that Jamir Hanner, who played at Marshall for the past two seasons, has signed a scholarship agreement to attend UB. Hanner will have to sit out the 2013-14 season per NCAA transfer rules, but will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2014-15 season.
"Jamir is a great addition to the program. We expect great things from him," Hurley said. "He's a terrific athlete who fits into the style of how we are going to play. He's a kid I watched quite a bit in high school where he was a very highly touted player. I think he'll benefit greatly from a year in the program and he's going to be a big part of the future moving forward."
A 6-8 forward, Hanner played in 53 games over two seasons with the Thundering Herd. He averaged 2.6 points and 2.4 rebounds while shooting 54 percent from the field. As a sophomore last season, Hanner averaged 3.6 points and 2.5 rebounds, playing just over nine minutes per contest. His career highs of 12 points and seven rebounds came against Ohio last season.
Hanner, a Philadelphia native, was a four-star recruit by Yahoo.com coming out of high school. He attended Notre Dame Prep following a standout season at NIA Prep in Newark, NJ where he averaged 18 points and 13 rebounds per game. As a junior, he led South Philadelphia High School to the Public League Class AAAA title while averaging 20.1 points per game.
Hanner is the third player signed by Hurley. UB's first-year head coach also signed forward Justin Moss and guard Deyshonne Much since being hired.
