Jones And White Qualify For Nationals

GREENSBORO, NC – Two trips to nationals highlighted the second day at the NCAA East Preliminary Track and Field Championships for the University at Buffalo. A pair of throwers finished in the top 12 as Jonathan Jones finished second in the shot put and Shant'e White finished eighth in the hammer throw. Both Jones and White qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships as well.
Jones finished in second with a throw of 19.06m, just shy of his career-high. Jones finished just behind Nick Vena of Georgia. White was one of three Mid-American Conference throwers to finish in the top 12 and advance to the NCAA Championships. She threw 60.73m on her second throw, qualifying for her first Outdoor National Championship. Brooke Pleger from Bowling Green and Brittany Funk from Akron finished first and second in the event. Teammate Erin Miller finished 20th in the event with a top throw of 55.09m.
In other field events on Friday, Casey Garbaty finished 27th in the javelin with a throw of 63.14m and Jacob Sunday finished 47th with a throw of 54.42m. In the women's pole vault, Kelly Truppo finished 26th at 3.85m.
On the track, Brooklyn Ventura finished her career with a 33rd place performance in the 100m hurdles, while Ryan Billian finished in 28th place on the men's side in the 110m hurdles.
Action will continue tomorrow with a number of Bulls competing in field events.
