BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo men's track and field sophomore Austin Price has been named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The league announced the weekly award from its Cleveland headquarters late this afternoon.
Price, a biomedical science major with a 3.613 grade point average, broke one of the oldest remaining records on the UB books at the Upstate Challenge in Binghamton on April 19. The Lockport, NY native claimed the men's triple jump with a winning leap of 51-0.25 (15.55m). The distance was an inch and a quarter better than the previous mark of 50-11 (15.51m) set by Kamau Halim in 2000. Price added nearly two feet to his previous best leap this season.
The Bulls will compete this Sunday at the Cornell Big Red Invitational in Ithaca.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
