FAYETTEVILLE, AR – Men's shot putter Jonathan Jones and women's weight thrower Shante' White represented the University at Buffalo on Friday afternoon at the NCAA National Indoor Track and Field Championships at Randall Tyson Track at the University of Arkansas. Jones finished 13th in the shot put while White took 15th in the weight throw.
Making his first NCAA National Championship appearance, Jones was eliminated after the preliminary rounds. White, also making her first national appearance, was one of seven competitors eliminated after the opening three throws. On her first attempt, the senior turned in a throw of 58-4.50 (17.79m). After fouling on her second attempt, White's turned in her best mark on her final throw of 61-9.75 (18.84m).
Both throwers earned Second Team All-America honors for their efforts.
Women's head coach Vicki Mitchell accompanied the throwers to the national meet. "For both this was their first NCAA Championships. It was a great learning experience. Both were nervous, as expected, at such an amazing event," said Mitchell. "Both competed to their best on this day and now can move to the outdoor season with greater knowledge and preparation."
