NOTRE DAME, IN – University at Buffalo middle-distance track specialist Meghan Manley was the lone competitor at Saturday's Alex Wilson Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame on Saturday.
Manley competed in the women's 800-meter run in a field of 37 athletes from NCAA Division I schools throughout the country in the last-chance meet before the next weekend's national championships. Manley finished 27th overall in 2:11.86 as she competed in a heat consisting of athletes from Duke, Texas, Tennessee, Michigan and MAC rival Kent State. The time was three seconds faster than her mark last weekend at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships where she finished second.
The sophomore set the school record of 2:06.97 at the SPIRE Division I Invitational in Geneva, OH on February 9. However, she will fall short of making the NCAA Championship field.
"Meg had an incredible breakthrough season," said head coach Vicki Mitchell. "Today was about experience. She has a bright future"
UB throwers Jonathan Jones (men) and Shante' White (women) are expected to gain spots in the national field for next weekend's meet in Fatetteville, AR. The official announcement will be Monday.
