Track Squads Compete at Denault Invitational

ITHACA, NY – The University at Buffalo men's and women's track and field teams made final preparations for next week's Mid-American Conference Championships with their final regular season meet, the Cornell Denault Invitational at Barton Hall on Saturday. The Bulls won four events and placed second in five events on the day.
Sophomore Craig Howard broke the UB record in winning the men's pole vault on Saturday. Howard cleared 16-0.75 (4.90m) to win the event. Sophomore Jenna Van Dusen won the women's pole vault at 12-5.50 (3.80m). Teammates Kaytlin Mack and Molly Coakley tied for fourth with vaults of 12-1.50 (3.70m).
The UB women also took the top three spots in the women's 400-meters. Freshman Gina Carnovale won the race in 59.48 seconds with sophomore Kyla Kenyon in second in 1:00.69 and freshman Tiffany Vera third in 1:00.75.
Shante' White also led three UB women in taking the weight throw. White won with a toss of 62-10 (19.15m). Erin Miller was second at 59-0.75 and Kristy Woods was third at 58-7.25 (17.86m). Miller also finished second in the women's shot put at 48-5.50 (14.77m) with Rachel Roberts placing third at 44-11 (13.69m). Former UB All-American Becky O'Brien, competing unattached, won the shot put at 52-0 (15.85m).
Tomarris Bell finished second in the men's triple jump at 47-4.50 (14.44m). He also took third in the 300-meters in 37.05 seconds. John Strickland was second in the men's high jump (6-6.25, 1.99m).
For the UB women, Sam Beim was second in the mile in 5:04.49. She also placed sixth in the 1,000-meters in 3:04.89.
The Bulls travel to Ypsilanti, MI for the MAC Championships on Friday and Saturday, February 22 and 23.
