Mount Pleasant, MI - The University at Buffalo wrestling team was denied their first conference dual victory of the season on Sunday afternoon at Central Michigan. The Bulls (1-4, 0-2 MAC) were downed by the Chippewas (5-3, 1-0 MAC) by the score of 29-6.
"We are fighting out there and I like the Effort," stated first year head coach John Stutzman. "It's not going to be easy but I am a believer, my staff are believers and our guys are starting to believe."
The Bulls were able to jump out to the quick 3-0 lead after the first match at 197 pounds as Angelo Malvestuto continued his hot start to the season, downing Jackson Lewis in the first tie breaker.
The Bulls were not able to hold onto that lead for too long as the Chippewas were able to rattle off eight straight victories, including five major decision wins.
In the final match of the dual, Tony Lock picked up his first conference dual victory of the season as he handed Craig Kelliher a loss by the score of 5-2 at 184 pounds.
The Chippewas held a 26-3 advantage in takedowns in the match and scored bonus points in five of their eight victories.
Buffalo will return to the mat on Thursday night as they travel to Iowa to play the #1 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes. The dual is set for a 7:00 pm start.
