IOWA CITY, IOWA – The University at Buffalo (1-5, 0-2 MAC) wrestling team was defeated by the score of 46-0 on Thursday night at #3 Iowa (6-0).
"We need to continue to learn to fight and compete for the entire match," stated first year head coach John Stutzman. "That's been the biggest concern for me. We need to compete harder in all phases."
The Hawkeyes opened up the dual with a victory at 125 as #4 Cory Clark was able to pick up the 13-3 major decision win over Mike Soria. Two more ranked Hawkeyes, #3 Tony Ramos and #10 Josh Dziewa, picked up dominating victories at 133 and 141 respectively over Justin Farmer and Nick Flannery.
Iowa was able to record two straight pins at 149 and 157 in less than five minutes. Michael Kelly pinned Ryan Todora in 4:03 and #1 Derek St. John pinned freshman Jake Campana in 2:02, in Campana's first career dual match.
The Bulls put up a good fight in the final five matches, but they were denied any points. Four of the final five Hawkeye opponents were ranked in the top-6 in the country at their respective weight. Angelo Malvestuto saw his record in duals drop to 4-2 on the season as he was dropped at 197 by Sammy Brooks, 13-5.
Buffalo will have just over two weeks off before their next match as they will head to the Lock Haven Invite on Sunday, December 29.
