Maziarz Takes Home Title; Bulls Earn 4th Place Finish at Cradle Gear Invitational

Lock Haven, PA - Buffalo junior Wally Maziarz picked up his first tournament victory of the season on Sunday afternoon at the Cradle Gear Invitational hosted by Lock Haven. Maziaraz defeated Gregory Flournoy of George Mason by major decision, 10-0, to take home the title at 157 pounds.
Maziarz picked up four straight wins on the afternoon to earn the title at 157 pounds. The North Tonawanda native picked up three major decision victories and one technical fall victory. In the opening round, Maziarz downed his opponent from Bucknell by the score of 11-0 before picking up the technical fall win over James Eustice of Binghamton at 3:18. In the final, Maziarz dominated Flournoy by the score of 10-0.
Four other Bulls recorded top-4 finishes on the afternoon as Cleveland State transfer Nick Flannery recorded a second place finish. Flannery won his first match of the afternoon by fall at 4:35 against Dylan Cohen of Binghamton. In his next match, Flannery dominated Matthew Rappo of Bloomsburg by the score of 6-2 before losing in the final to Daniel Heff of Lock Haven, 22-10.
Mike Soria continued to wrestle well, picking up a third place finish at 125 pounds. He defeated Logan Ritchie of George Mason by fall at 1:50 in the opening round before losing in the second round to his opponent from Binghamton. In the losers bracket, Soria picked up back-to-back victories by the score of 5-3 and 15-9 respectively to earn the third place finish. Tony Lock also earned a third place finish at 184 pounds following his dominating 8-2 victory over Austin Coburn of Old Dominion.
Tyler Rill put together his best performance of the season on Sunday as he earned a fourth place finish at 165 pounds. He downed Travis Curley of Michigan State in his opening match of the day by the score of 4-3 before falling in his second match by major decision, 18-2, to Austin Trott. Rill went on to win three straight matches in the losers bracket including a fall victory over teammate Ryan Therrien en route to a fourth place finish.
The Bulls will return to Alumni Arena for their home opening dual on Saturday, January 4 against conference foe Northern Iowa. The dual is set for a 1:00 pm start.
