BUFFALO, NY - Coverage of the upcoming 2013-14 basketball season will be expanding, with UB women's games now available on Sports Radio 1270 WFAN, The Fan. Announced Friday afternoon, the Bulls will now be heard on one of the fastest-growing sports talk radio stations in the region.
"We couldn't be more excited about our partnership with CBS Sports Radio 1270 The Fan," said UB Director of Athletics Danny White. "We look forward to growing with the station as we work together to build America's next major college athletics brand. This partnership is critical to our charge of bringing big time college sports to Western New York – I encourage all of our alumni and fans to tune in!"
The Fan, a Cumulus Media Station and member of the CBS Sports Radio Network, airs popular national shows such as The John Feinstein Show, The Doug Gottlieb Show, and Moore and Jones. The Rich Gaenzler Show airs weekdays from noon to 3:00 pm and features the best in local sports talk. Cumulus Media, which owns 1270 The Fan, also owns popular local stations such as 97 Rock, 103.3 the Edge and Classic Hits 104.1.
"Since the launch of Sports Radio 1270 The Fan, we've viewed the UB partnership as a necessity for success in local sports programming because the collegiate level has been long overlooked in Buffalo," said Steve Bearance, vice president and marketing manager for the station. "We are thrilled to add the women's coverage to our line-up and it strengthens the synergy of our relationship. The Fan has truly become the home for UB Athletics."
On the call this season for the Bulls will be Doug Page, who is in his first season as the voice of the women's team.
Head coach Felisha Legette-Jack brought a full-scale change to the Buffalo women's basketball team in her first season, and the team is prepared now to take yet another step forward in the 2013-14 season. Returning to the team will be eight letterwinners, and six newcomers will not only push the returners for playing time, but will at the very least provide crucial depth for a team that looks to push ahead after making the quarterfinal round of the 2013 MAC tournament. Coach Jack and the Bulls will kick off the season on Nov. 8, when they travel to Binghamton to face the Bearcats.
