BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo men's and women's basketball teams will give fans a sneak peek at all the excitement to come for the 2013-14 season this Friday evening with "Bulls Madness". The event, starting at 7 pm, will feature brief scrimmages, skill competitions, and a meet-and-greet session on top of a number of prize giveaways. The event will be headlined by the always-entertaining dunk competition, featuring some of the biggest names in Buffalo sports as the judges, including Fred Jackson and Aaron Williams of the Buffalo Bills.
Doors open for the event at 6 pm, with early promotions held before it all kicks off at 7 pm with team introductions from hosts Brad Riter and DJ Jickster from 97 Rock. The women's team, in its second season under coach Felisha Legette-Jack, ended the season on a high note with a deep run in the Mid-American Conference tournament and adds six valuable new players to a veteran squad of eight returning letterwinners. The men's team welcomes in a new leader for the 2013-14 season, with college basketball legend Bobby Hurley taking over a talented team that includes All-MAC forward Javon McCrea and a deep roster of newcomers.
The two teams will then compete in a three-point contest, followed by a skills competition where the teams will be made up of a fan, a women's basketball player and a men's basketball player. After that, the two teams will run a brief eight-minute scrimmage before the dunk competition concludes the evening. In addition to Jackson and Williams, other judges will include Melissa Holmes from Channel 2 On Your Side, Rich Gaenzler from 1270 The Fan, and a special fan judge chosen on social media. Jackson and Williams will be available for a meet and greet session at 6:30 prior to the beginning of the event.
Aside from the events, students in attendance will be able to take part in a half-court shot contest, the skills competition, and an autograph session following the event. Those in attendance also have the ability to win tickets to see Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake in concert during their respective tour stops at the First Niagara Center.
The regular season is fast approaching, with the men and women both starting on Nov. 8. The home opener will be a doubleheader on Nov. 16, with the women opening against Cornell at 12:30 and the men playing West Virginia Wesleyan immediately following.
