Bulls Open Indoor Track Season at EMU Triangular

YPSILANTI, MI – The University at Buffalo opened the 2013 indoor track and field season on Friday evening with the Eastern Michigan Triangular at EMU's Bowen Fieldhouse. The Bulls finished third in both the men's and women's competitions as they took on Akron and the host Eagles.
The UB women's 4x400-meter relay took the meet's final race as the Bulls posted a three-second win over Eastern Michigan. The UB foursome of Jamiee McClary, Crystal Graham, Gina Carnovale and Donna Jeanty won in 3:55.88.
Meghan Manley won the women's 800-meters as the Bulls posted the three fastest times in the race. Manley won the event in 2:16.43 with Regine Lazard placing second in 2:16.55 and Jackie Burns third in 2:16.88.
The UB women also picked up a second-place finish from Brooklynn Ventura in the 60-meter hurdles. Ventura clocked 8.66 seconds in her race as EMU's Vanessa Clerveaux won in 8.38. Ventura also finished third in the women's 200-meters in 25.91.
Erin Miller and Shante' White added third-place finishes in the throws for the UB women. Miller had a shot put toss of 46-4.25 (14.13m) to place third while also taking fourth in the weight throw at 57-4.25 (17.48m). White placed third in the weight throw at 59-1.25 (18.01m).
Newcomers Shelby Janutol and Kara Patrick finished second and third, respectively in the women's 3,000-meters. Janutol placed second in 10:20.16 with Patrick right behind in 10:20.44.
Jonathan Jones won the shot put for the UB men. He finished with a top throw of 59-5.50 (18.12m), more than five feet better than the second-place finisher.
The UB men also collected five second-place finishes, three from sprinters making their collegiate debuts. Freshman Darien Johnson finished second in the 60-meters in 6.96 with freshman Ryan Billian taking second in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.14. Brian Crimmins, another freshman, finished second in the men's 800-meters in 1:55.19.
Sophomore jumpers Chris Reape and Austin Price also posted second-place finishes for the UB men. Reape took the runner-up position in the high jump at 6-9.50 (2.07m) while Price finished second in the triple jump at 47-42.5 (14.43m).
Both teams placed third in their respective fields. The UB men collected 77 points with Eastern Michigan holding off Akron, 113-109, for the top spot. The UB women scored 75 points trailing the Eagles (119) and Zips (92).
Both squads travel to the Cornell Upstate Challenge next Saturday.
