BUFFALO, NY – Just days after being named the Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week, University at Buffalo defensive end Colby Way was honored again by the conference. He was named the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week on Thursday.
Way, an Academic All-MAC and Academic All-District selection a season ago, is a computer engineering major with a 3.4 grade point average.
He had six tackles (four solo) and a pair of solo sacks against sixth-ranked Georgia. He had a key sack late in the first half that enabled the Bulls to get the ball back and drive down for a field goal in the final seconds to cut Georgia's lead to 24-16 at the half.
The two sacks were a career high for Way who had three all of last season.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
Buffalo will host Morgan State in its home opener on Saturday at 6:00 pm at UB Stadium.
