Liz Scott Named MAC East Offensive Player Of The Week

BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo sophomore and UB Invitational Most Valuable Player Liz Scott earned another accolade this morning as she was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week. It was the first time in Scott's career that she has been honored with the weekly award.
Scott had an outstanding first weekend as she was one of three Buffalo players honored following its tournament victory, leading the Bulls to a 2-1 record. Scott had 20 or more kills in each of UB's victories beginning the season with 20 kills against Canisius. However, Scott saved the best match of her career for the Tournament Championship match as she finished with a career-high 25 kills and a .479 hitting percentage against Oral Roberts. Scott had just two errors in the five set match on 48 total swings. Scott also racked up 27 digs in the three matches over the weekend. Scott finished with 27.0 points in the win over Oral Roberts, tying a school record for points in a five-set match. The points category was not introduced until the 2003 season.
Through the first three matches of the season, Scott has 55 kills, 27 digs and 13 total blocks. Her .336 hitting percentage is fifth in the league, while her 55 kills are tied for first.
"I thought Liz was steady this entire tournament and she was our go to player when we needed big points," said head coach Todd Kress. "She provided leadership in the face of adversity and put up numbers that we haven't seen from anybody in a long time. I am extremely proud of her and the entire team for what they accomplished this past weekend."
Scott and the Bulls continue action this weekend as they head to South Bend, IN for the Shamrock Invitational. The Bulls face Eastern Kentucky on Friday at 4:30 pm.
