BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo softball head coach Jen Teague has announced the signing of Nicole Aviles to a National Letter of Intent. Aviles will join the Bulls for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
Aviles is a pitcher from Phoenix, AZ where she was a four-year letterwinner at Sandra Day O'Connor High School. During her senior season with the Lady Eagles, Aviles went 14-5 with a 1.31 ERA, striking out 167 batters and walking just 29 in 123 innings. She was an AIA first-team All-Section team member and a second-team All-Division selection, while also being named honorable mention AZ Republic All-State.
"Nicole plays on one of the top travel teams out of Arizona and we are extremely excited to have her here at Buffalo," said Teague. "She has a tremendous work ethic on and off the field and we are looking forward to working with her as she develops into a great D-I pitcher."
Aviles plays club ball for AZ Hotshots Gold-Davis where her and her teammates will be attending the ASA Gold Nationals in Oklahoma City at the end of the month. For the last three years, Aviles has also been a member of the Puerto Rico Youth and Jr. Women's National Softball teams. With the National teams, she won bronze medals at the 2009 ISF Youth World Cup, in Prague, Czech Republic, and at the 2010 ISF Jr. Women's World Cup Qualifier, in Bogota, Colombia.
