BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo softball head coach Jen Teague has announced her 2012 Fall Exhibition Schedule as well as her 2013 Spring Schedule.
The Bulls will get their first action in September when they play three straight weekends in preparation for their spring season. On Sep. 15-16, Buffalo will play in doubleheaders at the Northtown Center as the Bulls join Niagara, Canisius and St. Bonaventure for round-robin play. The Bulls will face the Bonnies on Saturday at 11:30am and Niagara at 1:30 pm. They conclude on Sunday against Canisius at 11:30 am and then play in the championship/consolation game at 1:30pm.
Buffalo will face the Purple Eagles at Nan Harvey Field on Sep. 22 in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm and the Bulls are tentatively scheduled to head to Binghamton on Sep. 29 to close out the Fall season.
"The Fall schedule is very important for us so we can get a good look at our team before the Spring," said Teague. "Of course we want to win all of those games, but it is important for us to implement our team philosophies and figure out the strengths and weaknesses of our team."
The Bulls will begin their Spring year on Feb. 15 as they head south to Stetson University for their first tournament. UB follows that up the next weekend at a tournament at Louisville and it will head to Marshall for another tournament beginning on Mar. 1.
UB hits the west coast for Spring Break, heading to California, the home state of six players on this upcoming year's team. The trip begins on Mar. 8 with a tournament at University of California-Riverside and concludes the weekend of Mar. 15 with a tournament at San Diego State. In between those two tournaments, Buffalo will play a doubleheader at Long Beach State on Mar. 13.
"We are very excited about the first five weeks of our season and we are happy that we can bring six players on our team back to their home state of California," said Teague. "We are going to see some very good teams in all of our tournaments, but we will use each of those weekends to improve and prepare for Mid-American Conference Play."
The Bulls come home for the first time in 2013 on Mar. 27 when they host Canisius at Nan Harvey Field. Buffalo opens MAC play at home that following weekend as they welcome Akron to town for a doubleheader on Mar. 29, followed by a two-game series with Ohio that weekend. The Bulls will then head to Niagara (4/3), Central Michigan (4/5) and Eastern Michigan (4/6-4/7) before returning home for a non-conference doubleheader against Detroit on Apr. 9.
UB goes back on the road Apr. 16 as it heads down to St. Bonaventure for a doubleheader before traveling to Bowling Green (4/12) and Toledo (4/13-4/14). Buffalo returns home for the final time in 2013 on the weekend of Apr. 19. The Bulls hosts Western Michigan in a doubleheader on Apr. 19 and then a two-game series with Northern Illinois beginning on Apr. 20. Sunday, Apr. 21 will be Senior Day for Buffalo's four-member senior class.
The Bulls round out the season with seven road games to end the regular season. They head to Canisius on Apr. 24 and then go to Kent State for a two-game series beginning on Apr. 27. UB concludes the regular season at Ball State (5/3) and Miami (OH) (4/4-4/5).
The MAC Tournament begins on May 8th and goes through May 11 in Akron, OH. The top 8 teams in the league qualify for the conference tournament.
