BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo softball coach Jen Teague has announced the addition of Heather Ryder, a pitcher and corner infielder that will have two years of eligibility left beginning in 2012-13.
Ryder hails from Stratford, Ontario and comes to UB after playing at Butler Community College, leading the team to the NJCAA World Series this past year. For the Grizzlies, Ryder went 11-3 in the circle and struck out more than twice the amount of batters that she walked. Ryder also had 76 at bats this past season, hitting .289 with three home runs and nine runs batted in.
Prior to her time at Butler, she attended Northwestern Secondary School and participated in hockey and volleyball. She played club softball for the Guelph Gators and in two seasons compiled a .407 batting average and a 1.83 ERA with a 41-9 record. Ryder also participated in the Canadian Junior team tryout process where she was selected as one of the final 25 athletes along with fellow UB newcomer Dani Cowan.
"Heather comes to us from a Junior College powerhouse," said Teague. "They know how to win and she contributed at the plate and on the mound during their World Series run this season. I saw potential from Heather with a ton of immediate growth. She has been part of the Canadian National team system with one of her new teammates and we look for her to make a huge impact for us all around."
Ryder joins Kenzie Koch, Dani Cowan, Ryleigh Fitzgerald and Anissa Pinedo, who all signed with the Bulls for the upcoming year.
