ORANGEBURG, SC – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team began its spring break trip to the Palmetto State with a 6-1 loss at South Carolina State on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls are 1-7 as they head to The Citadel for a match on Monday.
The Bulls scored a singles victory at number one as freshman Damien David improved to 16-5 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Tomas Bizon. David leads the Bulls in singles victories in 2012.
UB also picked up a doubles win from the number three duo of Alex Kalinin and Yevgeniy Jason Shkodnik. They downed Bizon and Young Kwan Lee, 8-4, to pick up their fourth win as a duo, tied for the team lead this season. The Bulldogs (9-2) won the number one and two doubles matches to earn the opening point.
"South Carolina State is a very tough, well coached team that took it to us today," said head coach Lee Nickell." I am proud of the way we compete, but we need to get better at executing. We will get back to work tomorrow to prepare for Citadel on Monday."
The Bulls travel to Charleston to face The Citadel for Monday's 1:00 pm start.
