BUFFALO, NY - Having been on a break for the last 13 days to concentrate on finals, the University at Buffalo women's basketball team returns to action on Friday afternoon to face Big 4 rival Niagara. The Bulls have not played since a 65-60 loss to Binghamton on Dec. 8 and are looking to continue a seven-game winning streak against the Purple Eagles.
The Bulls (1-9) are being led by the their youth as freshman Rachael Gregory continues to lead the team in scoring and has reached double figures in points in the last five games. Junior point guard Margeaux Gupilan is coming off her best game as she had 20 points and seven steals against Binghamton. The seven takeaways were the most in a game by one player since 2008. The Bulls will be getting a new lift offensively as redshirt junior Cherridy Thornton will dress for the first time since transferring from Detroit last January.
Niagara enters Friday's game with a 5-4 record following a 66-63 overtime victory over Colgate this past Sunday. Niagara has won two straight games and four of its last five, including a victory over MAC member, Kent State. Lauren Gatto leads the Purple Eagles in scoring and rebounding at 13.1 and 5.8 per game, respectively. Chanel Johnson adds 9.4 points per contest, while Kayla Stroman is averaging 8.8 points and a team-high 36 assists.
