BUFFALO, NY –Shannon Evans, a guard from Suffolk, VA, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University at Buffalo and play basketball for head coach Reggie Witherspoon. The 6-1 guard will join the Bulls beginning in the 2013-14 season.
Evans, a 2012 graduate of Nansemond River High School, averaged 19 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.6 steals per game as a senior en route to being selected to the All-Southeastern District First Team and Honorable Mention All-Eastern Region. He helped lead the Warriors to a 21-5 record and a Southeastern District Tournament title. Evans shot 46 percent from the field and 44 percent from three-point range.
"We're really excited about Shannon joining our basketball program," Witherspoon said. "He's a tremendous young man that comes from a great family. Spending this year at Hargrave Military Academy will help him tremendously. I think he has a chance to be a tremendous player for us."
Evans will play this season at Hargrave Military Academy for former Marshall point guard A.W. Hamilton. He will play with seven other players that have signed NLIs to play collegiate basketball.
