EDINBORO, PA - Despite losing its first four matches of the day and falling behind 16-0, the Buffalo wrestling team rallied Saturday afternoon against Edinboro but were unable to complete the comeback, falling 30-14 to the Fighting Scots.
After earning the start at 157 pounds, Wally Maziarz helped get the Bulls on the board at the halfway point of the dual, pinning Edinboro's Casey Fuller in the second period to start the comeback attempt in a big way, moving the score to 16-6. Mark Lewandowski followed up with a major decision in his 165 match, beating Ethan Saylor 11-0. Jake Waste capped the team's day with a win at 174, earning another major decision with an 8-0 shutout over Chris Hrunka. The trio of wins brought Buffalo within two, 16-14, but it could not find another win in the final three matches.
Next up for the team will be a rigorous weekend at the Virginia Duals, held in Hampton, Virginia. Last season, the Bulls went 2-3 at the prestigious national duals tournament, beating Virginia and Rider. The brackets for the double-elimination event will be released on Tuesday, with the preliminary matchups to begin Friday.
