
Bulls Fall To Miami, 72-51

OXFORD, OH – The host Miami (OH) women's basketball team led wire-to-wire on Saturday afternoon, as it defeated the University at Buffalo, 72-51, winning its eighth straight game. The Bulls, who just concluded a stretch of 12 of their first 16 games away from home, have fallen to 5-11 on the year and 0-2 in the MAC.
The RedHawks began the game with back-to-back three pointers, taking an early 6-0 lead. UB would move to within one at 9-8, but that as close as it would get. The Bulls remained within striking distance as they trailed 18-15 with 8:42 left, but Miami would go on a 9-0 run, getting its lead up to 12. A three pointer from Courtney Osborn with 30 seconds left gave the RedHawks a 38-20 lead in to the half.
Miami got its lead up to 20 early in the second, leading 47-27 when the Bulls made one final shot at a comeback. The Bulls went on a 7-0 run, capped off on a jumper from Brittany Hedderson, pulling them within 47-34 at the 10:53 mark. However, the RedHawks responded with six straight points. Miami would go on to lead by as many as 21 in the second half, which was their final margin of victory.
The Bulls were led by Hedderson, who scored over half the team's points, finishing with 26. She added five rebounds, two assists, three steals and a career-high three blocked shots. Nytor Longar finished with six points, five rebounds and three steals, while freshman Christa Baccas added six points, three assists a block and a steal.
Freshman Valerie Majewski recorded five points and three rebounds off the bench, while Ephesia Holmes and Beth Christensen each added four points. Christensen finished with five rebounds, two block and two steals as well.
Miami (12-3) remained unbeaten at home this season, winning all nine of its games at Millett Hall. The RedHawks were led by Osborn, who finished with 23 points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals. Kirsten Olowinski added 15 points and 14 rebounds, while Hannah Robertson finished in double figures with 11 points.
The Bulls will return to action on Wednesday night when they host Akron at 7:00 pm. It will be UB's first home game of 2012 and its first game with the new video board.
