BUFFALO, NY - After taking nearly two weeks off for the holiday season, the Buffalo wrestling team will look to turn the page to 2012 on a positive note Monday afternoon. Standing in its way will be the Binghamton Bearcats, ranked 23 in the country thanks to a 7-0 record. Due to Alumni Arena renovations, the dual will be held at Lancaster High School.
The last time out as a team, UB won two of three duals to post its first wins of the season and move its overall record to 2-7 after routing Gardner-Webb (43-3) and Niagara County Community College (47-3). More recently, redshirt wrestlers John-Martin Cannon and Andrew Schutt traveled West for the 2011 Ken Kraft Midlands Championships. Schutt went 1-2 at the talent-rich tournament, and Cannon put together a fourth-place finish. Earning the seventh seed, Cannon won five matches in the tournament, including wins over the sixth, eighth and ninth seeds in the 174-pound bracket. His two losses came by one point apiece.
The Bearcats have also been off for a long stretch and are coming off a fourth-place team finish at the Reno Tournament of Champions. At the Northeast Duals prior to that, the team reeled off wins over national powers such as Arizona State and Purdue.
The dual is scheduled for 3 pm at Lancaster High School.
