TOLEDO, OH – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team fell at Mid-American Conference rival Toledo, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon to complete a two-match roadtrip.
The Bulls (5-6, 0-2 MAC) scored a doubles victory to open the day. The number one tandem of Wojciech Starakiewicz and Mitch Zenaty knocked off Aleksandar Elezovic and Sven Burus by an 8-5 margin as the UB pair won for the second straight day.
UB scored singles wins in the fourth and fifth matches. At number four, Alex Kalinin needed three sets to dispose of Mircea Dimofte, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5. In the number five match, Jason Simon defeated Gursher Harika, 6-1, 6-3.
"This was a tough weekend for us, but we are resilient and will continue to fight," said UB head coach Lee Nickell. "Having George [Tibil] out has hurt us, not just tennis-wise but in terms of leadership. It's time for guys to step up and we will be back on court Tuesday to get better and work towards our match with Marist Sunday."
The Bulls host the Red Foxes next Sunday at the Miller Tennis Center at 10:00 am.
