
Bulls Open South Carolina Trip With 5-2 Win at Furman

GREENVILLE, SC – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team scored a 5-2 victory at Furman on Tuesday afternoon to open their spring trip to South Carolina. The Bulls improved to 4-3 with the victory as rain forced play to be moved indoors
The Bulls scored the opening doubles point with victories in the second and third matches. The number two duo of Marcelo Mazzetto and Travis Zappia scored a 9-7 win over Joel Cook and Alex Christ. The number three team of Vusa Hove and Alex Kalinin scored a shutout win against Andrei Chvestsov and Marco Aru, 8-0.
UB won the match with victories in the bottom four singles contests which included a pair of three-set matches. Mazzetto scored a 7-5, 6-7 (5), 6-3 win over Chvetsov at number three while Jason Simon also picked up a three-set win over Christ, rallying from a first-set deficit, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Kalinin defeated Tyler Droll, 6-2, 6-2, in the number five match and Mitch Zenaty downed Joel Cook, 7-6 (6), 6-2 in the number six match.
The Bulls continue play in Greenville tomorrow against Army at 10:00 am. UB concludes the South Carolina trip at the College of Charleston on Friday.
