BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo's cross country and track and field programs will present a series of clinics and camps over the coming months, including opportunities for middle and high school athletes and coaches. All clinics and camps will feature instruction from men's and women's cross country/women's track and field head coach Vicki Mitchell and men's track and field head coach Perry Jenkins and the UB coaching staff as well as demonstrations from UB student-athletes.
UB Track and Field Learn by Doing Clinics

Where: Alumni Arena Main Gym, UB North Campus
Who Should Attend: The UB Track and Field Clinics are designed for boys and girls in grades 7-12. Parents are welcome to observe at no charge. The focus of these camps are to teach the basic fundamentals of running, jumping, and throwing techniques, as well as basic plyometrics and drills that are typically used in track and field training. Both clinics will run from 12-4 pm. A session on nutrition will also be offered. Students should come dressed for activity, and coaches may participate or observe.
UB Elite Clinic: Field Events & Hurdles
When: Sunday, February 12, 2012
Where: Alumni Arena Main Gym, UB North Campus
Who Should Attend: The UB Track and Field Clinics are designed for boys and girls in grades 10-12. This clinic is designed for more advanced training and technique work and not ideal for novice athletes. Parents are welcome to observe at no charge. The focus of the clinic is to teach more advanced training techniques for the following events: Hurdles and relays, Horizontal Jumps, High Jump, Pole Vault, and Throws. The clinic will run from 12-4 pm. Students should come dressed for activity, and coaches may participate or observe.
UB Track and Field/Cross Country Summer Camps
When: Sunday, July 8 – Wednesday, July 11, 2012
Where: UB Stadium, UB North Campus (Overnight campers will stay in the Ellicott Complex, but use multiple facilities around campus.)
Who Should Attend: The UB Track and Field Camp and Cross Country Camp help develop skills and techniques for track and field and cross country. They are learning camps, not training camps. Participants take part in drills, attend lectures and demonstrations, and use visual aids for each event, including the decathlon and heptathlon. Other aspects of competition – nutrition, rest, relaxation, and general health – are also part of the daily training. Because performance levels of campers may vary from beginner to advanced, instruction is individualized to accommodate that range. The camp is recommended for students entering grades 7-12 next fall.
