BUFFALO, NY – Western New York native Todd Witzleben has joined the University at Buffalo as a recruiting coordinator and assistant cross country and distance coach as the Bulls begin the 2010-11 season.
Prior to coming to Buffalo, Witzleben spent three years at LaSalle University as an assistant coach and has also served on the coaching staffs at Temple University and The College of New Jersey. During his tenure at LaSalle, he had great success recruiting and coaching top student-athletes.
Witzleben's athletic career has been very impressive. He was a two-time NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships qualifier while competing in cross country and track and field at LaSalle and won six Atlantic-10 Conference titles. He was also a four-time Academic All-American and was named the 2002 Atlantic-10 Student Athlete of the Year.
A Western New York native, Witzleben graduated from Orchard Park High School and earned his bachelor's and MBA degrees in Business Administration from LaSalle University. Currently, he is also working towards a Masters in Exercise Science degree from The College of New Jersey.
A professional runner, Witzleben was the lead runner in Nike's Run Barefoot commercial, which featured the theme to Chariots of Fire playing in the background. He also placed seventh at the 2005 Freescale Austin Marathon in a time of 2:21.23 while running for Nike Team Run LA.
"Todd will add a tremendous amount to the coaching staff as he brings excellent recruiting skills, as well as knowledge and experience in both cross country and track," said UB cross country and women's track and field head coach Vicki Mitchell.
