BUFFALO, NY – Head coach Linda Hill-MacDonald has announced the addition of Margeaux Gupilan (San Valley, CA/Bellarmine-Jefferson) for the upcoming 2010-11 season. Gupilan becomes the third player signed by the Bulls for the upcoming season. Gupilan is also the first UB women's basketball player from the state of California.
Gupilan, who averaged 13.8 points, 5.8 assists and 5.1 rebounds her senior year, helped lead her team to an 84-14 record during her career, winning three Santa Cruz League Championships. Gupilan also won the Division 5 California State Championship in 2009 and her team was a section semifinalist this past season.
Gupilan was named the Santa Cruz League Player of the Year this past season and was a three-time All-Santa Cruz League First Team selection. Gupilan was also named first-team All-State in California each of the last two seasons, while finding her named on the first-team All-California Interscholastic Federation team in each of her three years. Gupilan, a three-year captain for Bellarmine-Jefferson, has also been named first-team All-Daily News and first-team All-Area Burbank by the Glendale News Press, two seasons in a row. Gupilan was recently also named to the Los Angeles Daily News All-Area First Team.
"Margeaux is an energetic player with a passion for the game and we are excited that she has chosen to come here to Buffalo," said Hill-MacDonald. "She has a great competitive spirt and is an extremely good floor leader. She does a wonderful job setting her teammates up for success, but she is also a versatile scoring option as she can shoot three, drive the lane and hit the mid-range jumper."
Gupilan joins a recruiting class that already includes Rachel Bantelman (Olean, NY/Olean) and Kristen Sharkey (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern). Bantelman recently concluded her senior year and was named Girls Area Player of the Year by The Buffalo News, while Sharkey was also honored by her hometown newspaper as The Press of Atlantic City Player of the Year.
