BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo's Kristy Woods has earned a spot in this weekend's NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Fayetteville, AR. The sophomore will compete in the women's shot put event at the national championship meet.
Woods secured her spot in the national field at last Friday's Columbia Last Chance Meet in New York City. She posted a throw of 53-9.50 (16.40m), breaking her UB school record for the third time this season and adding more than nine inches to her NCAA provisional qualification distance.
Woods is seeded 17th in a 19-thrower field. Seven throwers in the national field automatically earned their slots in the competition. The remainder of the field was filled with provisional qualifiers, based on their top throws, in descending order until the field was completed.
This is Woods' first selection to the NCAA National Indoor Championships and UB's first since Sarah Vance competed in the shot put at the 2007 meet. Vance, UB's previous record holder in the shot put, finished 15th at the national competition.
The women's shot put event is scheduled for Saturday, March 13 at 5:30 pm (4:30 CT) at the Randall Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, AR.
