
Bulls Open Season With 86-48 Exhibition Win

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team got its season started on Monday night, defeating Daemen 86-48 in an exhibition game. UB begins its regular season this Friday at home against Howard.
UB opened the game with the first seven points and went on a 15-0 first half run to take a commanding 35-9 lead. In the first half alone, UB turned 16 Daemen turnovers into 21 points, while getting 24 points from its bench as 10 players saw action in the game.
The second half was equally as dominating as UB opened on a 17-0 run to take a 69-23 lead. The Bulls got out to their biggest lead of the game at 47 on a three-point play from Kourtney Brown with 10:12 left in the second half. UB continued to lead by at least 40 for much of the second half before Daemen closed the game with five straight points to pull within 38.
Brown, who was recently named to the Preseason All-MAC Team, finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end. Brown also had two blocks and two steals. Junior Teresa Semalulu added 12 points off the bench, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor. Semalulu added four rebounds and three steals. Senior Ashley Zuber and junior Ephesia Holmes each added 11 points as Holmes also recorded four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Freshman Kristen Sharkey had nine points, including a three pointer, in her first action, while seniors Bridgette Kendricks and Jessica Fortman each finished with six. Freshmen Margeaux Gupilan and Rachel Bantelman had four and two points, respectively.
The Bulls begin the season with two straight home games on Friday against Howard. Tip off is set for 7:00 pm.
