BUFFALO, NY - Fresh off a trip to Cancun for the Thanksgiving Classic, the Buffalo women's basketball team will travel across town to face the Canisius Golden Griffins Wednesday evening.
It was a historic weekend for senior forward Kourtney Brown, who passed former teammate Heather Turner to become the program's third leading scorer, with 1,418 total points. Brown averaged 15.5 points and 9.5 rebounds over the weekend and now averages 21.5 points and 12.2 rebounds after six games.
The weekend's standout was junior guard Brittany Hedderson, who scored 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds against Michigan. She then followed that effort up with 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists along with three steals in a win over William & Mary.
The Bulls will look to bounce back after losing a thrilling 59-56 matchup against the Griffs last December. There were 15 lead changes in the second half alone and Kourtney Brown led the team with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Buffalo is looking to win its first game over Canisius since 2000, when the team had a 73-59 victory.
Canisius is riding a two-game winning streak after starting the season with losses to Kent State and Binghamton. In its most recent game, the Griffs edged out Towson 58-52 Saturday afternoon. guard Ashley Durham (22) and Jamie Ruttle (11) each tallied career highs for points to lead Canisius. Durham is the team's leading scorer for the season, averaging an even fourteen points per game. Micayla Drysdale is the other member of the team to average double figures in points, putting in 10.3 points per game.
Tipoff is set for 7 pm at the Koessler Athletic Center.
