
Cold Shooting Hurts Bulls At Temple

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team hit the road for the first time on Friday night, but shot just 30.1 percent for the game, falling to the host Owls, 74-64, at McGonicle Hall. Kourtney Brown led the way with 17 points and 18 rebounds, her ninth straight double-double and the 32nd of her career.
The Owls led throughout the first half as the Bulls shot just 24 percent in the opening 20 minutes, including 4-for-15 from three. Temple scored the first five points of the game, but things stayed tight as UB tied it up at 14-14 on a layup from Jessica Fortman eight and a half minutes into the contest. The Owls responded on a 6-0 run and led by as many as 10 in the opening period before the Bulls cut it to six before the break.
The Owls continued to lead by six at 36-30 when the Bulls responded with a 6-0 run which was started on a three from freshman Margeaux Gupilan. Temple regained a four point advantage at 40-36, but a 5-0 UB run gave the Bulls their first lead of the game following two free throws from senior Ashley Zuber. An 8-2 Temple run pulled the Owls back ahead for good. The Owls got their lead up to as many as 16, but the Bulls closed the game with five straight points for the final decision.
Brown finished with 17 points and 18 rebounds, while setting the school record for career blocked shots with 166. Brown also moved into fourth place on the school's all-time rebounding list with 797. Junior Brittany Hedderson had a team-high 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Ephesia Holmes finished with nine points and four rebounds. Gupilan had six points on two made three-pointers, setting a career-best. Zuber tied for a game-high six assists, while adding two steals and four points.
Temple was led by 20 points from Shey Peddy and 18 points from Kristen McCarthy.
The Bulls remain on the road wrapping up their two-game swing through the Keystone State on Sunday afternoon when they face Bucknell. Tipoff is at 2:00 pm.
