Late Run Leads Huskies Past Bulls In Overtime, 93-88

DEKALB, IL – For the second straight game, the University at Buffalo women's basketball team was unable to hold on to a late second half lead, this time falling in overtime to Northern Illinois, 93-88, Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
The Bulls got off to a quick start to the game as they shot 60 percent from the floor during the opening 20 minutes. UB got contributions from everyone as seven different players had at least four points in the first half. UB went into the half up 10 as freshman Abby Dowd hit a three as time expired, her third three of the half.

UB continued to build its lead in the second half as a layup from Kourtney Brown with 13 minutes left put the Bulls ahead 61-45. The Bulls led by 13 when two quick NIU threes cut the lead to seven with 7:49 left in the second half. The Huskies would go on to tie it at 74 with 2:23 left and the two teams would end regulation tied at 78.
After the Bulls scored on the opening possession of overtime, Northern Illinois scored the next seven points and never looked back in the extra period. NIU's leading scoring Marke Freeman went on to score 11 of her game-high 36 points in the extra session.

For the first time since the 2007-08 season the Bulls had five players in double figures for the game, led by 20 points from Brown. Dowd finished with a career-high 18 points, while Brittany Hedderson andJessica Fortman each had 14 points. Fortman just missed the double-double with a career-high nine assists, while adding five rebounds and a block. Chrissy Cooper finished with 10 points and four rebounds, while Ashley Zuber had a season-high eight points.
As a team the Bulls shot 10-of-23 from behind the arc as the 10 made threes are a season high. Four different players had at least two three-pointers. Junior Bridgette Kendricks finished with a game-high 10 rebounds.
With this latest two-game road trip in the books, the Bulls will return home for just their seventh game at Alumni Arena this season. The Bulls host Toledo on Wednesday with tipoff set for 7:00 pm.
