Norb Baschnagel had a distinguished career as a student-athlete and a coach at UB, later joining the faculty at Clarion University, where he built the dominant women's tennis program in Pennsylvania in the 1980s.
Norb began his coaching career as as assistant for the men's basketball team, which, during his tenure (1974-1982), compiled a 159-67 record and was ranked as high as 3rd in the country.
As head coach of Clarion University tennis, his last 4 Golden Eagles teams captured Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships, posting a 57-1 dual match record and capturing a school-record (for all sports) 45 straight wins.
His 1985 tennis team posted a then-school-record 9-4 campaign and the following season produced the 1st PSAC title in Clarion history.
Norb, who was named conference coach of the year in 1988 and 1989, has been actively involved with a number of service organizations in his community, helping to raise more than a million dollars over the last 35 years.
He played 3 seasons of basketball for the UB Bulls and averaged 10 points and 7.4 rebounds, he was the MVP on the 1964-1965 team that competed in the NCAA Division II Tournament, then served as the top assistant on the Len Serfustini and Ed Muto-coached UB hoops teams from 1965-1973.
UB went 19-3 during his senior year, with Norb being voted to the NCAA Mid-East Regional All-Tournament First Team.
