Tim Saunders joined the UB staff in April of 2023 as the Director of Basketball Operations. On July 1, 2023, he was promoted to an assistant coaching role along with his operations duties for the Bulls.
Saunders comes to Buffalo having spent the 2022-23 season as Villanova's video coordinator.
A native of Torrey Pines, Cal., Saunders played for former Wildcats standout player (1973-77) and assistant coach, John Olive, at Torrey Pines High School.
As a member of the Villanova men’s basketball team, Saunders was part of 2018 National Championship team where the Wildcats finished with an overall record of 36-4. With the team, the Wildcats also won the 2019 BIG EAST Tournament Championship and the 2020 BIG EAST Regular Season Title. He earned a marketing degree from the Villanova School of Business in May 2020. Saunders also earned BIG EAST All-Academic Team honors.
As a graduate assistant, the Wildcats won the 2021 BIG EAST Regular Season title and the 2022 BIG EAST Tournament Championship. During the 2020-21 season, Villanova went to the NCAA Sweet 16 followed by making it to the NCAA Final Four in 2022. Saunders earned his MBA from Villanova in the Spring of 2022.
"In my 6 years knowing Tim Saunders as a player and young coach at Villanova, he showed a great enthusiasm and knowledge for the game," stated Head Coach George Halcovage III. "Tim is a rising star in this business, and we look forward to having him here in Buffalo."
