Ryan Horton enters his second season as head strength and conditioning coach for the University at Buffalo football program. Horton brought over 20 years of experience to UB, serving as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at a pair of Power Five and Group of Five programs as well as the head strength and conditioning coach at Elon.
Horton most recently spent three seasons as director of applied sports science at Georgia Tech. He oversaw the Catapult system, optimizing practice schedules and overall workloads. He monitored sleep scores and worked with players to improve their sleep habits to help improve performance.
Prior to Georgia Tech, Horton spent two seasons as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Temple. He assisted in all aspects of the program design, implementation and training of all football athletes including speed, conditioning and weight training. He also oversaw the program's nutrition program.
At Temple, Horton worked under head strength and conditioning coach David Feeley who served in the same role for Lembo at Ball State.
Horton was the director of strength and conditioning at Elon from 2017-19. He oversaw the training program for 17 sports consisting of over 400 student-athletes.
Horton also had stints as assistant strength and condition coach at FIU (2008-12) and Tennessee (2004-08).
Horton was a four-year football letterwinner at Otterbein College in Ohio, where he graduated from in 2004.
He and his wife, Jen, have dog named Maggie.
