
Murdock and Sabol Honored by SUNY

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo football standout Red Murdock and men's basketball standout Ryan Sabol were honored by The State University of New York by being named the SUNY Student-Athlete of the Year for fall and winter, respectively.
Murdock was a first-team All-MAC selection for the second straight season. The graduate linebacker led the MAC and ranked second in the nation in tackles with 142. It was the eighth-best single-season tackle total in program history. He added 13.5 tackles for loss, five sacks and six forced fumbles. He finished his career by setting the NCAA record for career forced fumbles with 17.
Along with being a second-team All-American, Murdock was named a finalist for the 2025 William V. Campbell Trophy, recognizing the best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership. Named to the 2025 AFCA Good Works Team, Murdock founded and directs the Virginia Homework Helpers program, a free K–12 tutoring initiative supporting students in his home state. He also volunteers regularly with UB Athletics at community service events.
Murdock is an Education Studies major with a 3.75 grade point average.
Sabol started in all 32 games and averaged 36.2 minutes per game, including four games with at least 40 minutes of action. The team leader in points became the third Bull in program history to surpass the 600-point mark in a single season, finishing with 603 points and 18.8 ppg. He became the 27th Bull in program history to reach the 1,000-point, with 1,299 career points, good for 15th in school history.
The junior guard finished the season with 17 20-point games, including a pair of 30-point performances. Sabol broke the program single-season three-pointers made record with 122, the record of 110 which stood for 15 years. His 122 made threes ranked seventh in the nation.
Sabol is a Business Administration major with a 3.688 GPA.
