BUFFALO, NY – Recognized for his outstanding work on the field and in the community, University at Buffalo linebacker Red Murdock has been named to the 2025 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, Allstate and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced on Tuesday. Murdock is one of 22 college football players and one head coach recognized for their extraordinary commitment to community service.
An All-MAC First Team selection, Murdock has been as impressive off the field as he has been on it. Along with volunteering at countless community service events, he is the founder and director of Virginia Homework Helpers - a free K-12 tutoring program for students back in his home state of Virginia. He founded this organization after seeing many of his peers struggle in school with no extra help, resulting in getting into trouble outside of school or dropping out. He hopes this helps young men and women finish their education under the premise of it being a potential escape from the vicious cycle of becoming a product of high-risk environments.
Murdock is the second UB player to be named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. Former UB wide receiver Fred Lee was honored in 2013.
This year's team was selected from a record 195 nominees, submitted by college sports information directors and coaches nationwide, spotlighting student-athletes who lead with purpose, from fighting substance abuse to creating opportunities for youth and families.
For the second year, Allstate is partnering with the Wuerffel Foundation to unify two of college football's most meaningful community service honors: the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy.
Fans can vote at ESPN.com/Allstate through Nov. 10 for one of 11 FBS honorees who will be named the 2025 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy recipient and serve as the Good Works Team captain, recognizing their leadership, performance, and impact off the field. All 11 FBS honorees will be invited to New Orleans to participate in a community project before the 2026 Allstate® Sugar Bowl®.
