BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo women's basketball head coach Kristen Sharkey has announced the addition of Deana Thompson to the roster for the 2025-26 season.
Thompson, a 5'8" guard, comes to Buffalo from Los Angeles, California where she was a four-year varsity starter and key contributor at Harvard-Westlake High School where she helped lead the Wolverines to a CIF Division II State Championship as a junior. She followed that up with a stellar senior campaign, averaging 21 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals per game, which earned her a 2025 McDonalds All-American nomination.
Thompson is a four-time First-Team All-Mission League, two-time All-Section and All-State selection and scored over 1,700 points across her decorated high school career. She also played AAU ball for Why Not Premier EYBL.
"Deana is a diamond in the rough," said Sharkey. "To get someone of her caliber this late in the 2025 class makes me ecstatic about where this program will go in year one. She's extremely shifty with an elite change of pace and her decision making when cut off is above her years. She is a high-academic focused individual who knows what she wants and is willing to work for it."
