BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo football team held its annual spring game on Saturday afternoon at UB Stadium. Using a special point system, the format pitted the offense against the defense and the defense came out on top, 40-10.
The defense shined, particularly the defensive line which was able to pressure the quarterback throughout the afternoon, resulting in nine sacks. George Wolo led the way with a pair of sacks.
Linebacker Connor Henderson, a new addition to the team in the offseason, had a game-high six tackles, followed by linebacker Gio De Leon and Arizona State-transfer Keontez Bradley who each had five.
Late in the first half, cornerback Amir Proctor had the only interception in the game to add points for the defense.
All six quarterbacks saw action in the game. Gunnar Gray finished 7-for-15 for 71 yards and transfer Ta'Quan Roberson went 10-of-17 for 62 yards. Jack Shields was 5-for-6 for 26 yards but did most of his damage with his legs, carrying the ball three times for 18 yards and scoring on a two-yard run.
Returning All-MAC receiver Victor Snow led the way with six catches for 53 yards. Tight end Nick Leonard had three receptions for 28 yards and running back Terrance Shelton, Jr. added three receptions for 17 yards.
Freshman Nino Hill paced the running backs, rushing for 65 yards on 14 carries. Shelton added 38 yards on eight carries and James McNeil, Jr. had 26 yards on the ground.
Kicker Nick Reed made a 31-yard field goal, his only attempt of the day, to add to the scoring for the offense.
The Spring Game marks the conclusion of the spring practice period. The Bulls will return for preseason camp in the summer before opening the 2025 campaign at Minnesota on August 28.
