BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo wrestling team had their four-match win streak against Ohio snapped by the Bobcats, 20-13, on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Arena but it wasn't without some solid individual performances.
Max Elton got the Bulls on the board with a 5-2 decision in the first match of the day. Elton's takedown in the second period was the difference.
After Ohio won the next two matches to take a 6-3 lead, Sam Ewing gave the Bulls the lead right back with his best win of the season. The redshirt-freshman got a takedown and consecutive four-point nearfalls in the second period to take an 11-1 lead on Derek Raike who entered the day 10-0 in duals. Ewing earned a 13-1 major decision.
Kaleb Burgess followed with a major decision of his own over Logan Carvatas at 157. Burgess set the tone with a takedown and back points in the first period before pulling away for the 15-2 major.
The match of the day was at 184 as Marcus Petite put his 11-dual match win streak on the line against #33 Jeremy Olszko. Petite trailed for much of the match but got Olszko to back out of the circle and was awarded a stall point with just one second remaining to tie the match, 4-4. Petite then quickly got a takedown in OT to earn the sudden victory.
Prior to the dual, the Bulls honored four seniors. Zachary Ash, Cole French, Ty Raines, Hunter Shaut and Robbie Unruh all competed at Alumni Arena for the final time on Sunday.
Up next for the Bulls are the MAC Championships hosted by Rider University on March 7th and 8th.
