BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo swimming and diving program is hosting Canisius University and Niagara University for the UB Invite this Friday and Saturday in the Alumni Arena Natatorium. The three session meet is set to begin at 5 p.m. on Friday.
The Bulls enter the competition following a win over Toledo, defeating their Mid-American Conference opponent, 179-121. The program improved to 3-1 on the season with the win, also marking the ninth consecutive victory over the Rockets for the Bulls.
Bella Forsman was named the MAC Swimmer of the Week following the win over Toledo. The sophomore has had a strong start to the season, winning eight individual events across the Bulls' first three meets, two of which were tri-meets. Forsman has also been a member of two 200-yard medley relay wins, being the anchor swimmer for the team in both victories. The sophomore currently ranks inside the top 100 across NCAA Division I swimmers in the 100-yard individual medley (83rd, 58.32). Forsman also ranks third in the conference in the 100-yard individual medley and second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.94).
Freshman Pinar Donmez ranks inside the top three swimmers in the conference for both the 100-yard (1:02.21) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.69). Donmez's 200-yard breaststroke time rose the program's all-time ranks too, taking second. The freshman's time in the 100-yard breaststroke also ranks fourth in program history. Donmez most recently competed at the Islamic Solidarity Games, winning the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.25 in the event finals.
The Bulls have dominated the diving well through the team's three meets this season. Across the six individual diving events, five or more Bulls have placed inside the top seven, taking 35 of the top 42 spots. Freshman Adele Melamud has won four of the six events the team has competed in.
The Bulls have already defeated the Purple Eagles this season, expanding the program's all-time lead in the series, to 37-7. The Bulls are 11-0 against Canisius in head-to-head matchups. This weekend's meet will not feature team scores.
