WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – The University at Buffalo wrestling team competed in two duals hosted by Purdue on Saturday. The Bulls took on the 28th-ranked Boilermakers in the opener and lost 35-6. UB dropped the next dual, 23-15, against American.
The Bulls got two wins in the opener against Purdue. Kaleb Burgess earned a 6-1 decision over Isaac Ruble at 157. Marcus Petite upset 25th-ranked James Rowly, 9-3, for his best win of the early season.
In their second dual against American, the Bulls fell behind early, 11-0, but rallied to take the lead. Sam Ewing got the Bulls on the board by winning by injury default, four minutes into his match. Trailing 11-6, Burgess earned his second win of the day with a 9-4 decision over Kaden Milheim.
Kelin Laffey got his first win as a Bull with a 10-6 decision over Austin Craft at 165 to give the Bulls the lead, 12-11. Rafael Knapp followed with an 11-9 decision over Hunter Hohman to extend the UB lead to 15-11. Knapp's takedown, late in the third period, proved to be the difference in the match.
Unfortunately, American was able to win the final three matches to pull out the victory.
The Bulls will next wrestle at the Black Knight Invitational on Nov. 23.
