UB Student-Athletes Record Second-Highest GPA in Department History for Spring Semester
BUFFALO, NY – It was another successful semester in the classroom for UB student-athletes as they posted a 3.262 grade point average for the spring semester. It was the second highest GPA in department history.
Soccer claimed the top spot for the spring semester with a 3.729 team grade point average, the team's highest GPA in program history. Men's tennis led all men's teams with a 3.526 GPA. Swimming and diving posted their highest grade point average in program history with a 3.715.
Women's basketball had the most improved semester from the fall, increasing their GPA by 0.457 points, followed by women's cross country (+0.187) and soccer (+0.137).
Overall, 12 teams had a 3.0 grade point average or better – soccer (3.729), swimming and diving (3.715), women's tennis (3.703), volleyball (3.648), men's tennis (3.3.526), women's cross country (3.473), men's cross country (3.436), women's track and field (3.349), softball (3.318), women's basketball (3.297), men's track and field (3.181) and wrestling (3.035).
The department had 43 student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs and 160 posted a 3.5 or better. In all, 248 student-athletes (73 percent) reached the 3.0 plateau.
"We would like to congratulate our student-athletes on another outstanding semester in the classroom," Senior Associate Athletic Director for Championship Resources Aaron Stang said. "With an impressive 73 percent earning a 3.0 GPA and 43 achieving a perfect 4.0, their dedication to excellence extends beyond the field to the classroom. These numbers are not possible with the incredible support of our coaches and staff who understand the time commitment and work that goes into being a student-athlete and whose pivotal roles have not only nurtured athletic prowess but also instilled a commitment to academic success in our student-athletes. Thank you all for continuing to prioritize the academics and development of our student-athletes and we look forward to continuing to raise the bar higher."
