Bulls Bested by Bowling Green on Homecoming
10/14/2023 8:17:00 PM | Football
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo football team fell to Bowling Green, 24-14, on a rainy afternoon at UB Stadium on Saturday, spoiling UB's homecoming game and handing the Bulls their first loss in Mid-American Conference play.
Despite allowing 24 points, Buffalo's defense played well for the third straight game. Unfortunately, two game-changing plays went in favor of the Falcons in the first half, including a fumble returned to the UB 9-yard line that would later turn into a touchdown and a blocked punt that resulted in a score.
After the Bulls scored first to take a 7-0 lead on a 10-yard run by Cole Snyder, midway through the first quarter, the Falcons were able to score 24 straight points and led 24-7 at the half.
The UB defense clamped down and only allowed 59 yards of total offense and shutting out Bowling Green in the second half.
C.J. Ogbonna threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Darrell Harding, Jr. with 3:02 left in the third quarter. Unfortunately, those were the only points the Bulls were able to score in the second half.
Buffalo was able to force three BG turnovers in the game. Marcus Fuqua pounced on a fumble in the first quarter that led to the Bulls' first touchdown. Charles McCartherens had an interception in the second quarter and Jayden Oliver had a pick in third quarter.
Devin Grant had a career-high 11 tackles, including a tackle for loss. Joe Andreessen tied his career high with nine tackles and added a tackle for loss and a forced fumble.
The Bulls will next play at Kent State next Saturday.
